Buddhist Reflections is an informal, no-sectarian gathering open to all. Meeting monthly to examine, discuss and share themes relating to Buddhist history, philosophy, interpretations and opinions.
Our goals include discussing:
The Buddhist "Way".
Comparing Buddhism to other philosophies
Examining interpretations of Buddhist writings, both historical and contemporary
Investigating how Buddhist thought may be brought into our daily lives. Join us for 90 minutes of investigation, exchanging ideas and considering how the teaching of Buddhism may serve us as we live in the present and going forward.
Meets the 4th Tuesday of each month in the Elliott Room from 7:00-8:30 pm
Singing Meditation: Meets the second Monday of each month at 7 pm. This interfaith spiritual practice combines many types of group singing and drumming with observation of silence. A simple song is typically sung repetitively by the group until the song spontaneously dissolves into silence with a gentle signal to end the silence after several minutes. The singing part of “Singing Meditation” includes a variety of vocalizations: toning, chanting, singing in rounds, singing in harmony and mantras. Our goal is to sing or chant enough times that our collective vibrations resonate deep in the heart of each participant. Some of the songs used in Singing Meditation are slow and contemplative. And, some are high energy and joyful with percussion and / or other instruments - deliberately chosen to be easy to learn. No experience with singing, meditating or drumming is necessary. All skills welcome.
Book Discussion Group: Meets once a month September through May to discuss a book mutually chosen.
Yoga Circle: Meets each Thursday from 6:30-7:30 pm for gentle yoga and meditation. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or blanket.
Hand Drummers Circle: Meets the 1st Sunday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary. All levels are welcome!
Gay Men's Discussion Group: Meets each Thursday at 7:30 pm. An opportunity for discussion and support.
Personal and Spiritual Writing Group: An open group that meets on mutually agreed upon days usually at 4 pm - check the Calendar for meeting dates.
Choir: All are welcome to join the choir. No experience is necessary, just enthusiasm - being able to read music is helpful. Rehearsal 9:00-10:15 Sunday mornings September through June. No choir in summer.
